Thing a thousand times every day all day, over and over again. So i got to put the little metal thing in a hole and then pass the cardboard over to the guy that would slam it down. So my job was to take the metal thing and put it in the hole. The cardboard over to the guy that would slam it down. For the first day even. I thought, you know, im going to i was aiming at finishing it. I thought there would be an end to it. Thousands of them, and i would prove to the bindery people that i was so fast that i could complete it and i would be done and i just realized it is never over. They just kept coming, the little pieces of cardboard and the little thing, and that went on for weeks and weeks doing the same thing and i thought, my god, im ready for college. Can i do this. But it taught me Great Respect for the men and women who do that work every day. That thankless work that makes it possible for us to have books and folders, and i learned work ethic at the bindery. Barbara franklin was the point person for this and it was a Real Initiative on the part of the Nixon Administration. Did this come from pat nixon . We dont know. We know that julie played a role working with barbara franklin. Theres no doubt that pat nixon was supportive but i dont know, perhaps you found evidence that she was the one who was pushing this. We do know that she was very disappointed in october of 1971. President nixon had two open seats on the supreme court. She really hoped that one of them would go to a woman. When that didnt happen, she let president nixon know in a private family dinner that julie writes about. She really let him know that she was not happy. And then didnt speak to him for a while, which was kind of her way of letting him stew on things and getting back at him and because she was very she thought she had a promise from him that h
