Snowmelt to be added to Cherry, library walkway in Zeeland

ZEELAND A project that includes installing a snowmelt system on the north side of Cherry Street and around the Howard Miller Public Library in Zeeland is set to begin this spring.  The Zeeland City Council awarded the construction bid Monday for the Library Alley and Cherry Street improvement project, expected to cost the city $1.1 million in total.  The project includes adding a sidewalk to the north side of Cherry Avenue and reconstructing the area around the library including the Church Street sidewalk and the alleyway between Drip and Tripelroot to make them more walkable.  There will be no steps, no ramps, no handrails, said city manager Tim Klunder Monday.  It will be a very walkable, inviting space, with a lot of aesthetic improvements.
