The ₹11,000-crore project will generate over 25,000 jobs directly and indirectly The Andhra Pradesh Government has selected Essar Steel as a partner for development of the proposed 3 million tonnes per annum high grade steel Kadapa greenfield plant.
The State Cabinet chaired by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy today decided to mandate Essar Steel to develop the steel plant on the basis of recommendations made by SBICAP. This means the earlier selection of Liberty Steel India as joint venture partner will be cancelled.

The Union government on Tuesday gave necessary environmental clearances to the Kadapa Steel Plant in the State.
The Union Forest and Climate Change Ministry has given the clearance to the project. The State government sought permission in a proposal dated December 20, 2020. Revised proposals were sent on January 29, 2021. The government enclosed the environmental impact assessment copy with the proposal.
The government conducted EAC meetings on December 30 and 31, and again February 10 and 11 in the villages.
The steel plant will be constructed at Sunnapurallapalle and Pedda Nandaluru villages in YSR Kadapa district.

In a major step towards setting up of Kadapa Steel plant in Andhra Pradesh, the Central Government has approved environmental clearance.
The state government has achieved environmental clearances in less than three months after submitting the proposal on December 20, 2020 to grant environmental clearances for Kadapa Steel Plant and sent amendments on January 29, 2021.
After a review of the State Government submissions on the Environmental Impact Assessment to the proposals, the Board approved them and accorded clearance
The State government had submitted proposals to set up AP High Grade Steels Ltd. (steel plant) at Sunnapurallapalle and Peddananduluru villages, Kadapa district, with a capacity to produce three million tonnes per annum, including 84.7 MW of electricity generation in the first phase. It is taking up the project through a joint venture by engaging a private developer.
AP invites Posco for discussions for greenfield steel plant at Krishnapatnam

× Andhra Pradesh government has invited Korean company Posco to discuss their proposal for setting up a greenfield integrated steel plant at Krishnapatnam in Nellore district.
The move comes within days of the State Cabinet nod for Liberty Steel India Limited joint venture for setting up of a greenfield steel plant in Kadapa district of the State.
R Karikal Valaven, Special Chief Secretary, Industries and Commerce, AP, in a letter addressed to Sung Lae. Chun, POSCO India CMD, has invited Posco for discussions to take forward their proposal under the AP Industrial Development Policy 2020-23 and firm up the plans.
