Actress Phylicia Rashad has been appointed Dean of Howard University s College of Fine Arts.
Rashad, who is most remembered for her role as Claire Huxtable on The Cosby Show, was announced in the position today.
In making the announcement, Howard University President, Wayne Frederick, welcomed Rashad back to her Alma Mater. As we reintroduce our campus community and the world at large to Howard’s College of Fine Arts, the dean will play an instrumental role in ensuring an auspicious beginning for this reestablished institution. Given Ms. Rashad’s reputation as well as her capabilities and impressive list of accomplishments, she will undoubtedly empower the college to transcend even our incredibly high expectations. Under her leadership, Howard will continue to inspire and cultivate the artists and leaders who will shape our niche and national cultures for generations to come, he said via a statement.

The Disney/Pixar hit film, which celebrates Black culture and features the first-ever Black lead character in a Pixar movie, recently released clothing and accessories designed by Black artists in honor of Black History Month.
The movie’s lead character Joe Gardner, who is voiced by Jamie Foxx, is led on a spiritual journey immersed in black culture intertwining his day job as an NYC teacher with a new career in jazz music.
Inspired by Disney and Pixar s Soul, the colorful design on this tee features Libba Gardner, Dorothea Williams, Melba and Mary Lou, the four black woman in Joe s village. Created by artist Bee Harris for Hue Unlimited, the tee is part of a collection crafted by emerging artists celebrating Pixar s first ever lead black character.

Pixar uncorks another phenomenal animated fable

This isn’t the first time I’ve observed that some of the sharpest, wittiest and most perceptive scripts belong to animated films.
An impressive percentage of them come from Pixar.
Pete Docter has been one of Hollywood’s most innovative writer/directors for well over a decade; he’s also one of the most savvy collaborators. Although he shared scripting credits on “WALL•E,” “Up” and “Inside Out,” all three possess an inventive point of view a shrewd analysis of the human condition that bespeaks Docter’s guiding influence.

Soul, Joe is a middle-school band teacher whose life hasn’t quite gone the way he expected. His true passion is jazz and he’s good. But when he travels to another realm to help someone find their passion, he soon discovers what it means to have soul.
