Yukon government at odds with federal decision to delay mining project

The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board released its recommendations for BMC Minerals proposed Kudz Ze Kayah lead-zinc-copper-gold mine in October. It stated there could significant adverse effects from the mine, located 115 kilometres south of Ross River in southeast Yukon, but the effects could be mitigated by following 30 recommendations in its assessment.

The survey was distributed on phone game applications like Angry Birds, which expanded its demographic reach by allowing for more younger people to submit responses. In total, more than 1.2 million people from 50 countries participated, making it largest survey ever conducted on climate change, according to the Globe and Mail. The survey found that close to 70 per cent of people under 18 believe climate change is a global emergency versus 58 per cent of those over 60.
