NOWSHERA: Liaqat Khattak became the first casualty of the Pakistan Terheek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s electoral defeat on the provincial assembly constituency PK-63 as he was de-notified as the provincial minister for irrigation.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman de-notified Liaqat Khattak as minister after receiving a summary from Chief Minister Mahmood Khan.
Liaqat Khattak and his son Ahad Khattak, who is a former tehsil nazim, were accused of supporting the rival candidate PML-N candidate Ikhtiar Wali, who with the support of the component parties of the 11-party opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) defeated the PTI nominee Mian Umar Kakakhel.

PESHAWAR: The opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s victory in the Nowshera by-election soured the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s celebrations to mark the winning of the National Assembly seat in Kurram tribal district, leading to the expulsion of the brother of defence minister Pervez Khattak from the provincial cabinet on Saturday.
PTI candidate Malik Fakhr Zaman won the NA-45 Kurram by-election by securing 16,911 votes against 15,761 polled by JUI-F’s Malik Jamil Chamkani.
In Nowshera, PML-N’s Ikhtaiar Wali defeated PTI candidate Omar Kakakhel with a margin of over 4,000 votes.
