Professor Matthew Burton is one of 60 outstanding biomedical and health scientists that have been elected as an Academy of Medical Sciences Fellow.
The new Fellows have been recognised for their outstanding contribution to the biomedical and health sciences over the course of their careers, and their ability to generate new knowledge and improve the health of people worldwide.
The facility commissioning ceremony was presided over by the Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health, and attended by Her Excellency Kate Airey OBE, the British High Commissioner to Uganda, and Professor Liam Smeeth, the Director of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Funded by Wellcome and the UKRI United Kingdom Research and Innovation/Medical Research Council, the solar-powered facility will be used to conduct clinical research in infectious and non-communicable diseases.

We have taken this opportunity to host a one-day symposium March every year since 2010, to highlight contemporary TB research, control measures and policy initiatives, and to discuss future challenges.
