112 fines issued for breaches of travel

Gardai issued 112 fines to people in Dundalk in relation to breaches of the COVID-19 travel restrictions in place since the start of the year. They also prosecuted six people for attending a event and there was one prosecution for organising an event. The figures were provided at the Dundalk Joint Policing meeting held over Zoom last week. Cllr Maeve Yore wanted to know if the PSNI would be imposing fines on people from the Republic who had travelled to Northern Ireland and also if they had raided any pubs for breaches of the regulations. Inspector Liam Archbold said that the gardai were liaising with the PSNI in Newry regarding those breaching the travel restrictions and that they had a good working relationship with them on a local level.

Calls for Gardai to patrol Dundalk s popular walking routes Reporter:   ); Gardaí have been called to introduce foot patrols on Dundalk s walking routes to keep people safe. The gardai were also asked to carry out mobile patrols of Dowdallshill graveyard in a bid to combat dumping at the graveyard. Councillor Sean Kelly raised both issues at the Dundalk Joint Policing Committee s meeting last week. The chair of the local Joint Policing Committee, Cllr Seán Kelly, made the proposal saying it would make people feel safe given the increased number of walkers in the area. He also highlighted an illegal dumping problem at St. Patrick s Cemetery in Dowdallshill, which Sinn Fein s Edel Corrigan had raised earlier this month at a Municipal District meeting.
