HAIKOU, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) Fu Xiuying and her husband strolled in a park, while their parents played croquet with friends nearby. Beside the park, a herd of cattle grazed freely. Two years ago, the ground where they stood was a 4-meter-high pile of trash.
Fu, 46, lives in a village in Wenchang, a city known for its spacecraft launch center on China s resort island of Hainan. She and her family moved to the village in 2013.
Fu s village is about 900 meters away from the park today, at the junction of three adjacent towns. In the past several years, in a move to cut costs, some locals from neighboring towns used trucks to dump household waste near the village.
