Standley Lake baby bald eagle SL1 dies after nest collapse — The Know

15.3K Shares SL1, a popular baby bald eagle (right) born to parents known as Dad and F420, died May 13 when the tree holding the eagles’ nest collapsed at Standley Lake Regional Park. The eaglet was not yet able to fly when the nest fell and will be buried in a sacred ceremony in a Rocky Mountain Arsenal location blessed by Colorado indigenous tribes. (Eagle Cam screenshot via Standley Lake Regional Park) When a bald eagle known as F420 laid eggs more than two months ago in a nest above Standley Lake, the fledgling eagle family became the stars of their own Colorado sitcom.

Standley Lake rangers believe only one eaglet has hatched — The Know

17 Shares Standley Lake Park rangers now believe only one of the two two eggs laid by the bald eagle known as F420 has hatched. Last Friday they said they thought the second had hatched. The first eaglet, called SL1, is visible at the right center of this photo. (Standley Lake Eagle Cam, city of Westminster) Evidently only one of the famous Standley Lake bald eagle eggs has hatched after all, and park managers now suspect the other one is not viable. Two days after posting an entry last week on Facebook saying “we believe there is a second eaglet,” based on video images from the Standley Lake Eagle Cam, park officials backtracked on Saturday.
