Connecticut Dominant in Win Over DePaul WBB

Reply (Steve Woltmann/DePaul Athletics) No. 3/4 Connecticut came into Chicago in the middle of a major snowstorm, but their trip home was a happy one courtesy of a big 100-67 win over No. 17/20 DePaul. Despite DePaul going into the game as heavy underdogs, the 33 point loss was a bit surprising to most. One Chicago reporter disagreed though, stating it is the difference between a No. 3 team and a #17 team. DePaul jumped out to an early lead, ending the first quarter up 22-18. Unfortunately, it went downhill quickly from there. UConn took over and led 47-33 at half and 79-47 after three quarters, en route to the 33 point victory. DePaul led for 10:57, most of which was in the first quarter. DePaul s biggest lead was 7, while UConn was up by 40 in the fourth.

“It’s just lousy playing basketball this time in their lives,” Auriemma said. “There’s nothing to get excited about. This is just glorified practice, except you’re playing against another team. There’s no crowd. There’s no energy. People think, ‘Well, what’s the difference?’ It’s a huge difference. Basketball is meant to be played with the emotion of the game. “These games that I see are devoid of emotion, so you have to create your own,” he said. “And I thought we did that today.” Williams made 12 of 15 shots. Bueckers nailed a personal-best 5 of 7 3-pointers. The star freshman also had seven rebounds and just one turnover.

DePaul Overpowers Georgetown, Hoyas Fall 78-54 - The Georgetown Voice

Photo by John Picker/The Georgetown Voice The Georgetown women’s basketball team (1-3, 1-3 Big East) fell to No. 19 DePaul (8-3, 5-1 Big East) Saturday afternoon at McDonough Arena by a score of 78-54. DePaul jumped on the Hoyas early, building a 27-10 lead by the end of the first quarter that allowed the Blue Demons to stay in control the rest of the game. Though Georgetown adjusted to play close for the final three quarters, they were never able to get enough going on offense against a stifling DePaul defense. Meanwhile, the Blue Demons fast-paced attack, powered by strong outside shooting, proved a decisive advantage. First year guard Kelsey Ransom paced the Hoyas with 13 points and 7 rebounds, while DePaul junior guard Sonya Morris had 26 points on an efficient 9-13 from the field to spearhead a winning effort.
