While it’s ‘unfortunate’ inmate got personal ID data of corrections officer, the court can’t help: judge

WILLIAMSPORT – A federal judge has expressed empathy for a corrections officer but says there is nothing the court can do about his personal identification information mistakenly being given to an inmate.
What happened to Randall L. Spade “was clearly unfortunate and he should pursue his administrative appeals to the fullest extent possible,” Matthew W. Brann wrote Wednesday in an opinion.
The court does not have jurisdiction because the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA) is the exclusive remedy in cases like Spade’s, the judge wrote.

DANVILLE – The Allenwood Federal Penitentiary corrections officer who was stabbed in the eye is back in the hospital but he will not miss the family Christmas.
Dale Franquet Jr., 51, was readmitted to Geisinger Medical Center near Danville on Monday after daughter Mekenna, 14, told her mother something did not seem right with her father.

MIDDLEBURG – A 51-year-old Allenwood Federal Penitentiary corrections officer said there is no doubt in his mind that an inmate was trying to kill him during a confrontation there last week.
“I was fighting for my life,” Dale Franquet Jr. said Monday, describing the violent struggle with an inmate who came at him with a long shank around 6:15 a.m. Dec. 7.
