This coming Friday (04-23-21) the highly anticipated “
Mortal Kombat” movie will be hitting not only
HBO Max but theaters as well. It’s definitely one fans will enjoy. As it is a good mix of action, gore and can we say it – diversity.
EURweb correspondent Monique Loveless caught up with
Mehcad Brooks, who plays Jax in the franchise film. Discussing the diversity of the film was a major point Brooks brought home.
“I was in from the beginning,” Brooks says about taking on this role.
“Jax is an icon to me and when I read the script, I was impressed,” The actor continued “It wasn’t just playing to the lowest common denominator or just playing to the game. It was playing to a new generation by elevating these characters to a new cinematic level in which they deserve.”
Just days before the release, HBO Max has dropped the first seven-minute sequence of the enormously anticipated
The clip, which was shared on the film’s social pages, gives audiences a real glimpse of the Simon McQuoid-directed action film. The opening scene is set in 1617 in Japan’s Hanzo Hasashi Compound, where a gruesome fight scene ensues as Hanzo Hasashi finds that his family is attacked by Sub-Zero after he steps away momentarily. The first seven minutes provide audiences a small taste of the bloodbath to come, as well as the first moments of action of the film.
Mortal Kombat stars Lewis Tran as Cole Young, as he discovers his heritage and finds himself also hunted by Sub-Zero, played by Joe Taslim. The R-rated violent reimagination of the video game franchise is set to keep fans on their toes throughout the film. Fans can expect Hiroyuki Sanada to play Scorpion, Mehcad Brooks as Jax and Tadanobu Asano as Raiden.
