The captain and co-captain of a boat that capsized in the waters off Imperial Beach last year during a human smuggling attempt were sentenced in Federal Court.
Jorge Armando Preciado-Vasquez, 30, who helmed the boat, was sentenced to 54 months in prison; co-pilot Alexis Martinez-Preciado, 20, was sentenced to 50 months
The Nov. 2022 capsizing led to the deaths of a 39-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man, both from Mexico, as well as the death of a still-unidentified woman believed to be from Guatemala.
