The fire service received numerous 999 calls at 1.40pm today and sent five vehicles to the scene. The two occupants of the property were led to safety by rescuers before the fire service arrived. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was believed to have started outside the property but spread to the ground floor of the house and was also affecting a neighbouring home.

Spotting the doors open and the keys in the ignition, the 49-year-old could not resist temptation.  “He got in and started pulling levers and pushing buttons,” prosecutor Bethany Richards told King’s Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (April 22).

The CS Lewis Nature Reserve in Risinghurst, Oxford, was once part of the back garden of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe author. The Wychwood Foundation wanted to build a retreat with nine flats for vulnerable people of all ages. The charity withdrew its proposal after Oxford City Council planners recommended its refusal. It had planned to build apartments to sell, along with 22 parking spaces and an access road from nearby Lewis Close that would run alongside the reserve, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
