L&C s student newspaper wins 22 awards May 5, 2021 FacebookTwitterEmail Krystie Morrison of Lewis and Clark Community College’s student-run newspaper, The Bridge, won the Sports Photo category of the Illinois Community College Journalism Association with an image from the Jams and Slams Roller Derby. GODFREY Lewis and Clark Community College’s student-run newspaper, The Bridge, earned a record-breaking 22 awards in the 2021 Illinois Community College Journalism Association (ICCJA) awards. Last year the newspaper won 17 awards. Bridge Advisor Louise Jett said the challenges of the last year made her staff even closer. “The Bridge staff didn’t scatter to the wind when the pandemic hit,” she said. “We united to keep our campus community informed and entertained. Our commitment to being flexible and working together as a team helped us earn these awards, many of which took the work of multiple team members.

Incumbent Brian Campbell is running unopposed for 1st Ward Alderman. In the 6th Ward, incumbent Alderwoman Stephanie Elliott is running unopposed. Contested races include: 2nd Ward Incumbent Alderwoman Carolyn MacAfee is challenged by Steve Potter for 2nd Ward Alderman. MacAfee is a retired computer programmer from Owens Illinois Mold Shop who also served as a pricing clerk for Boeing and was the store manager for the Casual Corner clothing store. She is a high school graduate and completed two years at Lewis and Clark Community College.

GODFREY The Illinois Adult Continuing Educators Association (IACEA) has named Lewis and Clark Community College Adult Education student Alexandra (Thompson) Blockton as the winner of the 2021 Paul Simon Adult Learner of the Year award. Selected from five nominees, Blockton, a single mother, was moved to tears after learning of her win. “I cried happy tears,” she said. “I felt all the nights I stayed up late doing homework was worth it. It made me feel like I was progressing.”
