Despite disappointment at the cancellation of another major event in Caseville, local business owners said they understand the decision to cancel Shanty Days due to the pandemic.
Caseville’s Chamber of Commerce announced its decision to cancel Shanty Days on Jan. 21.
“Every business has struggled without the usual events, but I feel that the chamber has done the best they could during the pandemic,” said Carrie Sprague, owner of Walt’s Restaurant. “There were less volunteers available due to COVID-19 and to get insurance for the usual events was impossible.”

CASEVILLE – Caseville’s Chamber of Commerce announced the cancelation of Shanty Days last week on its Facebook page, following a scheduled meeting between the chamber’s board of directors.
According to the announcement, the Caseville Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors came to the unanimous decision to cancel the winter festival due to current MDHHS guidelines that do not allow for many of the typical events.
“It was a tough decision,” said Chamber Vice President Levi Zagorski. “We feel like it’s the best decision we could make, given the current information we have.”
