to far right extremism. it is deeply depressing to see hundreds of people still dying every single day from covid-19 and, yet, we have columnists in the liberal media, too, saying, well, let s move on. covid is over. it s not over and that s part of the problem we re not holding trump to account because so many people just want to move on. i m not going to move on. i want to hold him to account. thank you for your time. that is all in on this monday night. i m mehdi hasan. chris hayes will be back tomorrow night. you can find me sunday nights on this network 8:00 p.m. eastern right here on msnbc. the rachel maddow show starts right now. good evening rachel. how are you? good evening. i m very good mehdi. how are you? nice to see you here in primetime. it s nice to be here especially to hand it over to you. thank you, my dear. much appreciated. thanks to you at home for
science and technology committee. let s move on. the government is launching what it says will be common sense reforms to the human rights act that will restore confidence in the legal system. others say the changes are an attack on our fundamental rights. so, what is the human rights act, and what s changing? the act includes basic rights to life, a fair trial, and freedom from ill treatment. its wording comes from the european convention of human rights a treaty agreed by almost every nation in europe after world war two. the convention is enforced by a court in strasbourg, france, which includesjudges from the uk and all other nations. it s nothing to do with the european union. the proposed changes will mean the supreme court in the uk will have the final say on our rights. other changes will make it easier for the government to deport foreign national offenders, by introducing circumstances in which they can not claim a right to family life in the uk. the plans will see a ne
an election with someone that most of them knew was not suited to the top job, then along came the pandemic, exposing how he was not suited for the topjob. now, i think. i ve spoken to tory mps who are extraordinarily concerned and some believe and hope that borisjohnson will be replaced pretty shortly after christmas. thank you all very much. let s move on. on friday, germany s chancellor 0laf scholz travelled to paris and brussels, in part to discuss the seven year long stand off with moscow over ukraine. presidentjoe biden spoke to the leaders in germany, france, italy and the uk this week, before his two hour long conference call with vladimir putin. the russian president insisted the thousands of troops he s stationed close to the border are no threat . the united states and its allies see things differently. a casualty could be nord stream 2, the now completed gas pipeline between germany and russia. ian, does 0laf scholz
in government. and also, this plays well for sir keir starmer, who is the exact opposite of borisjohnson. he s not a jolly guy cracking jokes the whole time. he s a serious guy, but he has the lawyer s background, as a former head of criminal prosecutions, and it s played quite well for him to be able to forensically take apart some of these things. so i think that s why it s dangerous that if suddenly people are seeing the reality of borisjohnson, the tory party is panicking because they ve made a faustian pact to get through brexit, to win an election with someone that most of them knew was not suited to the top job. then along came the pandemic, exposing how he was not suited for the topjob, and now i think. i mean, i ve spoken to tory mps who are extraordinarily concerned, and some believe and some hope that borisjohnson will be replaced pretty shortly after christmas. thank you all very much. let s move on.
have today. although, heros like dole serve one last purpose when they pass. we celebrate their life and they can be inspirational, and watching people in that cathedral today talking to each other across party lines, maybe it maybe we ll have no tall ja for when people put country first. that would be a final service i think he would appreciate. allen simpson, tell me about the times when maybe in that senate republican lunch you guys were ready. you re not ready to compromise, you know, how would he make the case? how would he get everybody to say look, we ve got what we want. let s move on. well, he would make the case with good humor, and then they d say, well, how do we craft a bill that we re going to shift off to see if it will be vee teed. no when he does that, he ll chew his leg off.
