communities and don t have really a lot of economic opportunities themselves, and so if you re going to go to war, and you re going to declare it, it seems to me you ought to have some skin in the game and sacrifice is part of it. you just can t sit back and say, support the president, let s go to war, and then go back home and try to explain it. congressman forbes, i guess the key question from the congressional point of view is, are the votes there? i know it s early, but what are your thoughts about that? i don t think anybody is going to know until we do what we divide to do. it s right for the president to come to congress. national security trumps any other issue that we have. i think we owe it to the president. he is our command their chief to listen to what he says to say, to find out if he does have a strategy, an objective, and how we exit. but so far many of us haven t been persuaded he actually does, and so i think it s going to be a huge lift to try to get the votes fo
200 cruise missiles, you re going to war. if you re going to war, you need a strategy. if you are going to do that, the strategy should be to remove assad. the president promised he s not going to remove assad. we re going to kill many people. i don t know why we re going to kill all those people if we don t change anything. i can guarantee that s only the first act. we strike with a couple hundred crews missiles and expect the other side won t do anything. that s not planning, that s just rash. it seems to totally disregard the truth rule of all, no consequences, like there s no fallout. that s impression one got from watching the president s speech. we can finally calibrate so precisely deter further use of chemical weapons and walk away. has that ever happened? it s even more than that. he s basically saying lets go to war.
appointments, judicial appointments, his agenda, everything has met resistance. and everything he does, what he decides he wants to do, look at what s happening with eric holder. is it about eric holder? or is it about having a fight with the president? and i contend that the republican party has been about, from the moment he walked into the white house, let s go to war with this guy, no matter what he wants to do, and no matter how good it is for the country, let s just stymie him because we ll argue that he s incompetent, he s in over his head and we ll do everything possible to make that be a self-fulfilling prophesy. i think the court-packing thing, joan, is part of that, right? just say, just bowl this into the larger narrative of obama being the big-government guy. the overreach guy. the tyrant. when in reality, this is him fulfilling his duties as outlined in the u.s. constitution. i m sure josh did not mean to us a the word obstruction
this is not a president who wants to start another war. that s the way he sees it. i think it s totally irresponsible for an american president to have that. no one wants to start wars, but you got to do what you got to do. doesn t matter if the public is at 39% or 16%. really? what s happening in syria is a very serious matter. the trouble with that thinking, i respect the fact he does think, i just disagree with him. the fact is, bill out there and others are saying it doesn t matter what the polls are. usually the polls are with the bugle callers. the polls usually say let s go to war. it s the end of the war after a couple years they say, wait a minute, that was a mistake. this time 2/3 of the people are saying, don t even think about it. your thoughts, robin? how can you fight a war when 2/3 say we don t want to get
