shep: a powerful storm dumped snow in much of the deep south. officials in arkansas blame the weather for three deaths. they are telling folks to stay off the roads. and this coming up is the scene of the nation s busiest airport. jackson international, air tran has reportedly cancelled all the flights in and out of the area. and in oxford, mississippi, eight to ten inches of snow, eight to ten inches there but the kids love it. snow men are a lot of fun, aren t they? meteorologist janet dean, let s go to jonathan in atlanta, a whiteout? most people heeding the warning to stay off the road but they are redirecting traffic. problems reported on some of the interstates with jackknifed
triablg rigs and lot of them reporting the conditions. they are urging them to pack a jacket and a blanket in case they become stranded inside their vehicles. what is thinking when they get the roads ready? a lot of local officials predicting anywhere from 24-48 hours before most roads become passable but they anticipate isolated trouble spots throughout the remainder of the week. the temperature is expected to go below freezing every night for the rest of the week. even if the snow melts during the day, anything that doesn t evaporate turns into ice overnight. it s not finished yet. jonathan in atlanta, let s get to janice dean in the weather center. you want to do some snow angels with me tomorrow night? you ll have to help me out. and over a foot of snow in parts of north carolina, in tennessee, close to a foot there.
