jim sciutto is in washington. let s go to abby phillip at the white house. the president walking across the south lawn heading to new orleans. big headline here on the reporting about russia over the weekend. what did the president say? that s right, poppy. the president was asked once again for the second time in the last several days, if he ever worked for russia. and unlike this weekend, when he said he didn t answer the question directly, the president said today, i never worked for russia. so that is the big headline out of what he had to say. and as you can imagine, he had a lot more to say about the fbi and about his usual suspects who he says are perpetrating a hoax against him, but he did deny categorically that he ever worked for russia. this has come up because of a slew of stories but one in particular indicating that there were that there were attempts on the president s part to conceal the details of his meetings with vladimir putin over the last two years and cnn has
last week, we reported that the white house was considering an immigration speech this week, days before the idam term elections, and cnn is learning according to multiple sources that president trump is planning on giving some remarks on immigration later this afternoon around 4:00 p.m. on the issue of immigration. this is just before he leaves for campaign rally in missouri. and our sources tell us he s going to be addressing this issue of asylum, central to how he framed the problem of migrants coming up from central america. the administration is said to be considering ways to limit how migrants can claim asylum as they approach the u.s. border. so poppy, we re not sure exactly what president trump will say, but it s fair to say as he s going into this final stretch, the white house is refocusing as much attention as they can on this issue of immigration just hours before president trump hits the trail again. poppy and jim. abby, thank you. that s happening this afternoon. ques
