behind them, and let s go forward. how many of these republican senators do you think if they didn t think voting for her would get weaponized against them by, you know, some echo chamber conservative media would have been voting for her today, just based on the conversations you ve had? you know, it s hard to say, chuck. i think there are a number in that category, but there s also a number that legitimately believe that she has a judicial philosophy that s a little bit too liberal for what they can stand. and then there s some that were just going to be a no, period, because she was nominated by a democratic president. it s really difficult to say. we had some amazing meetings. everyone in those private meetings treated her with a lot of respect, very civil, very good questions. we were very thankful for that. it seems like what you re saying is when there s no cameras, things go well. and the minute a camera comes on, it s suddenly political theater. i mean, look, i say this
look at this and they think, how does this happen? how do you answer that? yeah, christi, good morning to you. good morning, elie. it happens because you had a situation here where the judge acknowledged that, in his view, there was intentional discrimination, but failed to faction a remedy. in the event you have a court indicating this is the appearance that something is amiss, i think then you are incumbent as a court to do something about it, right? clearly you acknowledge there s a problem. so, that s how it happens. it happens prior to that because both sides have what are called challenges. you can strike a juror for any reason or no reason at all, provided that reason is not on discriminatory. so, here we had a judge saying, absorbing and saying, you know what, yep, the composition may be off, you may have used your challenges in a way that s intentional or discriminatory, but nothing to see here, let s go forward. i think that s a mistake, undermines confidence in the system.
having said that, when you have a manchin that sinema saying, well, we just want to get some bipartisan, you do not want them to use you as the backboard to score for the republicans. we want to put the pressure on them until they came with their bill and now it is proven they can t get republicans. so, now, it s time for us to say to the white house, which it seems like for the first time the white house is saying, you ve appeared as reasonable as you want to unreasonable people. we told you they were unreasonable. now the vote is going down. there s no excuse not to come with a carveout and pass voting rights because you can no longer say, well, manchin and them want room and time to do bipartisan. we understand, reverend al, but we ve got to deal with manchin. well, now, manchin came empty-handed. let s go forward. and the fact the president and psaki said what they said today was the first time they went that far. we ve got to press harder to get
republican leaders kind of don t do anything about it, don t condemn him. they ll stand up to it every time it happens and say, we will have no part in that. instead they say, let s raise money with donald trump, let s go forward. in the new book, they get it. there were some republicans saying, mr. president, stop. what about your legacy? think about the future, think about how history will record you if you keep telling this lie. this quote from the book. my legacy doesn t matter. if i lose, that will be my legacy. my people expect me to fight, and if i don t, i will lose them. it does get at a key point about trump. he views loser as about the worst label you can put on someone. absolutely. and i think part of motivating his base and those voters is always being in a defensive crouch. that s why they keep furthering this. you see republicans on the hill, some of his allies continue to try to legitimize these claims despite these court documents and other republican leaders just
