federal criminal charges. in the next few hours in a miami courtroom donald trump will be charged with 37 counts in a case brought by jack smith. at this hour the former president is in miami after spending the night at his golf resort. he s expected to motorcade to the federal courthouse nearby where he will be processed and finger presented and then appear before magistrate john goodman to enter what he said will be a not guilty. trump-appointed judge aileen cannon will preside over the trial. her past decisions on the mar-a-lago classified documents were twice overturned by the 11th circuit court of appeals with scathing opinions. trump has been striking a defiant tone since being indicted for the allege crimes including making false statements and conspiracy to obstruct justice. the former president will be joined in court by attorney todd blanch, as well as attorney chris kise. co-defendant walt nauta is expected there too. he s the personal aid accused of moving aroun
kind of legal charges, do you think this will be different? that largely depends on the scheduling of the case. the government said it wants a speedy trial. i think people should ask themselves and pro-donald trump or anti-donald trump, what would an innocent person do facing this indictment? i think a normal person would say i want a speedy trial. remove this cloud over my head. it s made up. i don t want to delay. i want trial by labor day. that s what an innocent person would do. that s what anybody who wanted to clear his name would do. let s see what donald trump does. this indictment leaves open the question of why donald trump took the documents and refused to hand them over. you ve had interactions with him over classified material. do you have an idea why he wanted to keep some of these
go along with a fake insurrection. another white house counsel. exactly. then you have michael cohen, a personal attorney, he said yes and paid the price for that because he pled guilty to a crime, as he has said under oath, he committed for the former president. if you re being asked to represent him, there s four people you can look at on record where you know what you re getting into, which is you better have a really stiff backbone. i want to talk, chuck rosenberg, about the idea of having someone as a client who is going to do what he wants to do, say what he wants to say. that s the tradition. that s the history of donald trump. just today going after the prosecutors calling him a thug, a radical right lunatic and, you know, saying the country is going to hell. how much of it is how do you defend someone who thinks he always knows the law better than
his expertise is in appellate law. right now they need a trial team, a group of experienced criminal defense lawyers who can fill out todd blanch s representation and take on the serious issues the former president is about to face. laura jarret, let s talk about the judge. the issue isn t that she was appointed by donald trump. the issue is her rulings on the mar-a-lago classified documents case after the search and how it was handled and how the rulings slowed down the prosecution. she s not familiar with handling classified documents and she was overturned twice by the 11th circuit, the conservative circuit, in very harsh judgments. reporter: it s one of the issues that was raised when we were all reporting out whether the justice department would bring the bulk of the case in
