The Gainesville Sun Hurting our most vulnerable The Republicans are considering making serious budget cuts to both hospitals and nursing homes, according to the Feb. 21 article “Health care cuts in state budget?” Reducing Medicaid payment rates may help solve the $2 billion budget shortfall partially caused by the 20% enrollment spike in Medicaid because of COVID. Seriously? After hospitals and nursing homes have tried to meet the needs of hundreds of thousands of Florida residents, this is their reward? I understand that Gov. Ron DeSantis created a “provider payment program” that could access federal Medicaid dollars, but this seems far from certain.
