Despite living in a Logan Heights apartment complex for nearly a year, Gema Salazar keeps her home sparse. There’s a couch, a small dining table and a mattress in the only bedroom.
“I didn’t buy stuff because I saw all these problems,” Salazar said on Tuesday. Those problems include mice, water leaks, peeling floors and missing smoke detectors, she said.
The rodent problem is the most pressing issue for the family of four, she said. Salazar traps about eight mice a week on sticky traps, she said. She worries her children could get sick from diseases the mice or their droppings carry.
