EVANSVILLE, Ind. American Airlines in May will resume its twice-daily connection between Evansville Regional Airport and Chicago, which was suspended last year as the coronavirus pandemic gripped the nation.
The pandemic stifled travel from spring 2020 forward, forcing American and other carriers to ground several regular flights. But with vaccinations increasing, more people are flying.
EVV saw 9,224 enplanements in March, up from about 7,000 in January and February. Executive Director Nate Hahn said 10,000 is possible for April, and the May 6 return of EVV’s Chicago connection via American also will grow passengers.
EVV’s once-a-day connection to Chicago via United Airlines remained in service during the pandemic, so resuming the American flights will take EVV’s daily Chicago connections to three. Airport officials said it’s possible United could add a second Chicago flight this summer.
