Many readers of Earlier this month, HSJ published an exclusive story revealing trust CEO Lesley Watts had written a letter addressed to the trust’s staff, which said the covid jab would be compulsory for all its employees and this would be written into employment contracts. However, just a few hours after our story went live, the trust denied there were plans to make the jab mandatory and said the letter had not actually been sent. This perhaps highlights how contentious the issue of a mandatory covid jab is.

HMP Peterborough: Prison nurse banned after death of inmate

BBC News Published image captionMother-of-three Annabella Landsberg died after spending several weeks in segregation at HMP Peterborough A prison nurse who failed to make adequate checks on a diabetic inmate who later died has been banned from practising for 18 months. She died in hospital in September 2017 after being restrained and left on her cell floor for 21 hours. Mrs Watts admitted the misconduct and apologised for her lack of care. An inquest held in 2019 heard Ms Landsberg was restrained after she grabbed at a prison officer s leg as they tried to administer medication. She was left on the floor overnight and in the morning Mrs Watts, who was doing her rounds, said she observed her through the cell window, moving and breathing.
