A Hawaii House of Representatives investigation of the Agribusiness Development Corp. and a state land and development fund is starting to ramp up on the heels of audits critical of the two state agencies.
On Tuesday, a House investigative committee issued subpoenas to the ADC, the Department of Land and Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture. The committee plans to start hearings with witnesses in September and a final report with recommendations is due in December, one month ahead of the 2022 legislative session.

House Speaker Scott Saiki offered a taste of his intentions on the House floor last July as the Legislature dramatically shut down at the height of the pandemic.
“We know that this is the most challenging time that Hawaii has faced since statehood,” said Saiki, standing at the speaker’s rostrum. “It will not be easy to reopen Hawaii incrementally while still assuring public health and safety, but this is when we need to lead.”

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - A special panel Thursday issued a critical report on the state Auditorâs Office and its head Les Kondo, alleging low productivity, high staff turnover and substandard work.
But the committee stopped short of recommending Kondoâs removal.
The State Auditor Working Group â whose members include former Congresswoman Colleen Hanabusa, retired City Auditor Edwin Young and former state Finance Director Wes Machida â said that between 2016 and 2020, the Legislature passed bills or resolutions requesting 25 audits and reports.
