The California Faculty Association, which represents 29,000 lecturers, librarians, professors and other campus educators, will begin a five-day strike on Monday over stalled negotiations, accusing the CSU of bargaining in bad faith.
The largest public university system in the U.S., could stage a systemwide strike later this month after school officials ended contract negotiations Tuesday.
The California Faculty Association and Teamsters have called for a five-day strike next week at every California State University campus, including Cal Poly.
“Let me assure you, as a new chancellor four months into the job, I have no interest in a strike,” the university’s chancellor Mildred García said. “We are ready and willing to come back to the bargaining table with the California Faculty Association, but we must work within our financial realities.”
