The shelves of the Syracuse University food pantries are stocked with soup, tomatoes, pasta, lettuce, microwaves, pots, pans and feminine hygiene products.
The two pantries, located at Hendricks Chapel and the Carriage House in South Campus, have a rotating inventory based on donations - mostly non-perishables, but produce is also available in the warmer months, thanks to Pete’s Giving Garden on South Campus.
Nationwide, one in three undergraduate students faces food insecurity. At SU, where the campus population is 22,850 students (including graduate and law students), about half live off-campus and are not required to pay for a campus meal plan.
