After a bitter split and the departure of its champion Leon Louw, what does the future hold for the FMF? My guess is that almost nobody in the broader political establishment knows, or, to be honest, cares. But I don’t think free market ideas are anywhere near dead, least of all in South Africa.
No tax policy is likely to succeed (certainly not in a democracy)unless basic questions of fairness and justice are answered to thesatisfaction of the population as a whole. Governments that makethe tax process as simple, as honest, as transparent, and as fairas possible will bring benefits both spiritual and economic totheir people.
The future political and economic stability of South Africa hinges on its ability to tackle lack of economic opportunity, high unemployment, poverty, and the legacy of Apartheid. South Africa also needs a growing economy in order to address endemic challenges ranging from AIDS and crime to education and infrastructure development.
