President Bola Tinubu appointed Etekamba Umoren, a close associate of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, as the new Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner, despite his link to some previous embezzlement cases. Umoren was one of the 10 new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) Tinubu appointed on Wednesday.
