diverse,less attached to institutions, less trusting, loaded with debt yet optimistic about the future. joining me is paul taylor, author of the next america. you say these changes are happening in this country, young and old. can you explain? you touched on a lot of them. this is a fascinating generation. the oldest of the len y alls are in their 30s. in addition to what you pointed out, they are the first generation in american history to be doing less well economically than their parents generation. some of this has to do with student loan debt. but if you look at the folks really in trouble in this generation, it s the kids that didn t go to college to begin with. we know that the changing kbloebl economy is killing a lot
social policies, would that put a monkey wrench to his appeal? no. he s not a perfect candidate, but george bush has similar opinions, and he spoke in the philadelphia suburbs and did just fine. he spoke to african-american groups. i don t think individual issue positions will keep him from finding common ground with traditional democratic constituenci constituencies. he s such a better speaker than others, that gives him a leg up, and he s not afraid like of some the other candidates. well, did the my len y alls
find appeal in that, the 11-32-year-olds? well, my len y alls skeptical of authority, not liking big institutions. this is a sweet spot, and it will be interesting to hear what rand paul says. he s a skilled politician, and they ll listen to him. in a q and a, he was asked if this is a part of a potential presidential run? well, part of it is that. and another part is that republicans need to evolve, a adapt or die.

we face. and what is it that you think that they bring to the table when it comes to the culture of problem solving and solution seeking that is not being reflected by the power base? at least as it s modelled in our federal government right now. i think there s all sorts of things. we were talking about a more open generation. a collaborative generation. where the generation that grew up on google. another thing that s important is we re also a more pragmatic generation. so when we see the dysfunction in washington that we re seeing right now, we think that s not as good as it should be, obviously. we think we need to overcome that and get to real solutions. the distinguishing characteristic is how? and i say this a lot, but how is the answer. there s a how that s modelled in the problem solving of my len y alls that s very valuable for the rest of our society that goes to a culture of intense transparency and visibility with
