CASEY: Utility line-clearing destroyed decades-old shade garden in Raleigh Court yard

Gardening is a key to better health | Gardener State

Gardening is a key to better health | Gardener State Bruce Crawford Contributor Late March into early April is certainly a fickle time of the year. One day it is sunny and 65 degrees, only to be followed by howling winds and temperatures hovering in the low 40s. This in turn is followed by a chilly rain with the occasional dusting of snow. Regardless, I am not complaining, as April is sure to bring more warmth than cold and a return to gardening. Regardless of the weather, there is always one group of plants that never fail to disappoint – bulbs! Whether white, soft blue, bright yellow or purple, they bring wonderful color to the late winter and early spring garden. Snowdrops, with their pendant white flower, and the golden yellow Winter Aconites are always the first to appear, quickly followed by the bright blue Tommasini s Crocus and the luscious purple of Spring Meadow Saffron.
