Ottawa County is now up to 67 deaths determined to be the result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Slightly over 3,200 have been infected (including myself). The Ottawa County Health Department is moving forward with distributing the vaccine. By the end of this week, there will be over 5,000 local residents vaccinated. It was just about a year ago when we first learned about this virus. I can tell you that, based on hundreds of conversations our staff has had with local businesses, the impact has been dramatic. It was the first edition of The Beacon, dedicated to positive local weekly news and information.

The pandemic shut down most fish fries last year but many are returning this year, operating solely as take-out operations.
