Rally in StuyTown to Oppose New Fuel Plants

June 6, 2021 at 6:59 PM New York, NY Stuyvesant Town residents joined with elected officials and the Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village Tenants Association to oppose the construction of two new fuel plants within the confines of the building complex because they say they will emit greenhouse gases. According to the tenant’s association, in 2018 the management of Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village (STPCV) announced its intention to build a combined heat and power (CHP) plant between 245 and 271 Avenue C to produce steam for 24 buildings. The electricity produced, they note, would not benefit the tenants at Stuyvesant Town because STPCV owners would sell the electricity back to Con Edison’s grid.

The world’s very first electric-powered, emission-free fire truck has already been purchased by the city of Los Angeles, becoming the first North American city to deploy it. And the manufacturer, Rosenbauer America, was making its pitch to New York City officials with the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability. The company is the North American arm of the Austrian-based manufacturer, Rosenbauer, which has a proud, 150-year history of manufacturing experience, and is the world’s largest manufacturer of fire equipment with eleven manufacturing locations worldwide.
