Lenox Police Department could see first expansion since 1994

LENOX — The town’s Police Department could be in a position to add a 10th full-time officer in the coming year — the first expansion in over 25 years. The Finance Committee voiced support recently for a proposed 10 percent increase in the department’s budget for fiscal 2022. The additional $122,000 would help pay for another officer, in part to help handle an upsurge in criminal activity within the north end commercial district, where a few low-cost motels are located on the east side of Pittsfield Road (Route 7/20). The new officer would free up more time for Officer Tyler Bosworth, the department’s investigator, to handle cumbersome cases, said Police Chief Stephen O’Brien.

Incredible career the foundation for law enforcement salute to retired Lee Police Chief Roosa

LEE — They came from all corners of Berkshire County and Massachusetts to honor retired Lee Police Chief Jeff Roosa. From Sheffield to North Adams and as far east as Abington and New Bedford, dozens of municipal police officers, state troopers and sheriff’s deputies joined firefighters, emergency medical personnel and Lee business leaders in a 61-vehicle, COVID-style parade in front of Roosa’s home late Friday afternoon. The well-respected lawman, husband, father and community leader watched the procession from his driveway while under a canopy tent, family and friends by his side. The terminally ill, wheelchair-bound 47-year-old lifetime Lee resident is battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis — or, ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Small Basement Fire Gives The Olde Heritage a Scare

Small Basement Fire Gives The Olde Heritage a Scare As if 2020 hasn t been challenging enough for restaurants, The Old Heritage Tavern had a small basement fire during operating hours, forcing customers and tenants to vacate the premises. The popular Lenox eatery had a scare Saturday night when the main electrical service into the building, which houses the restaurants as well as tenants, shorted out and started a small fire in our basement. Smoke quickly took over the restaurant and caused multiple things to shut down. Tenants and customers evacuated the building and the Lenox Fire Department was able to identify the problem quickly.
