and you re looking at a need for because we have that mismatch, so, i am getting jargon and it does but what s important with the 70 billion. and we can t underestimate the importance of one of those decisions that was taking this weekend. to allow these banks they don t have losses, they re sitting on what s called paper losses. they can now whatever the value of those debt pieces that they have on the ballot sheet, they cannot say, look, i think it s worth 100 percent of what we want to be in the end. go get some money. that s people and paying as much attention to the fed lending window, and way more. it s been a slap in the face. but that s a huge piece. the deposits of the sacred central focus. explain in layman s terms the other part of what the government did this weekend with this landing facility. right. everybody focuses on deposits for good reason. the positive flows are driving huge problems, not just for all these regional banks that s wha
it is a case of wait and see, i think. it is literally hour by hour, day by day. if we can see the deposit movements we re seeing settle down, some of the fears come out of this, people recognize that, look, we will start getting the data tomorrow of the federal reserve lending window. we start to see banks using that, i think banks will settle down. and that s the important point for now. all bets are off. at 9:51 p.m. the night is young. a lot could happen between tonight and tomorrow. anything can happen between then and now. i think it s early days for sure. i think we could say look at what the fed did and the treasury department did. certainly hope that things are contained. but i think moving forward, we re in for rough swings. think about the type of vo volatility we have seen. we could be seeing more of that especially until we hear from
american banks. officials really scrambling over the weekend to get this plan together before markets open for trading today. yeah, that s exactly right. and you know this as well as anybody, confidence is critical. a week ago a bank considered the gold standard now no longer exists. that creates very real anxiety, very real concern. and i think the concern from administration officials there would be significant outflow of deposits from a number of institutions a lot of us which they d been watching viewed at potentially at risk or on the verge of failure and they needed to step in. two different steps taken yesterday back stopping all despauzts for svb and signature bank in new york who failed on sunday and having the federal reserve establish its lending authority that would give mid-size banks, smaller banks access to a lending window to ensure they d be able to maintain liquidity.
and s&p 500 futures, they don t appear to be split at this point. we know there are jitters and concerns that some of this may ããi think maxine waters was using the word contagion earlier when we were talking to her earlier in this hour. that this may lead to more fear and loathing on wall street. at this point, we re not releasing this at this point. well, i think the hope was that in some sense that the feds would step in.whether that meant finding and the buyer, whether that meant relaxing access to the feds when lending window, which they did. or whether that meant stepping in and essentially having the government guarantee that all of the deposits at these couple of banks would be fully accessible tomorrow in their entirety. not just weeks from now up to $250,000 or after this is all sorted out etc. this is why there is a lot of concern. so now that the government has stepped in ããand tried to provide resolution, the comments of others jitters. i don t know if it will be suf
