Reporter we are in sebastian, florida, 20 minutes south of melbourne and an hour and a half west of palm beach. Everyone is saying we are lucky. Thats the consensus. But there is damage. This is a business sign that has fallen to the ground. Based on what we have seen because of the winds. When we turn over here, we have got damage over here. Leaves and foliage that has fallen down. Over here we have flooding on this side of the street. Think it gives you the idea of the kind of damage we are seeing in sebastian. Some say a storm surge of 9 feet is possible in the capital of South Carolina, charleston. One boat owner is worried. Were concerned were going to lose the boat. You know, the reports are varying from 4 to 6 feet to 11. If were 11 feet, everything is gone. Nothing can survive. Fox news chief meteorologist rick wrightman is standing by. Where is it going . Know how miserable being without power can be. Catastrophic . These folks behind me lost their gas station. For folks driving around, the real issue, of course, is all the debris. This is a sign from the gas stain, boards with nails all litter the roadway, sheet metal wherever making it dangerous for folks trying to get around. Its the most dainch in terms of the actual damage right now. Places like st. Augustine, we cant even get to because of the storm surge flooding. This was the perfect storm as the eye of Hurricane Matthew moved up the coast of florida. It coincided with high tide, pushing all that water even higher. A number of rescues there in st. Augustine florida as people were trying to get out and the storm surge was happening so quickly.
