Pupils at a Suffolk school dressed up as different words to mark World Book Day.
Key worker children at Leiston Primary School decided to take a different turn with their usual World Book Day celebrations by ditching book characters for words.
Each pupil had a different word which they then had to design their outfit for the day around.
Among the words that pupils had to embody were sparkly , stripy and hideous .

Although lockdown means that most children won t go back to the classroom until next week, the occasion is still being marked in style by schools and families around Suffolk and Essex.

Many pupils who are currently in school, including children of key workers, have gone in dressed up as favourite characters, while others are joining in the fun virtually from home.

Are your children all set to celebrate World Book Day in lockdown?
The popular annual celebration of reading, which this year falls on Thursday, March 4, usually sees many children turning up to school in colourful costumes inspired by their favourite characters.
This year it s all very different because of Covid-19 lockdown, but many youngsters are still marking the occasion.

Pupils at Tollgate Primary School in Bury St Edmunds have also started the celebrations early with a virtual storytelling event organised by David Wilson Homes, hosted on Zoom by award-winning storyteller Amy Douglas.

A Suffolk school has turned to the West End for help in marking World Book Day.
Sarah Loxley, oracy at Leiston Primary School pupils reached out to actors from stage and screen to bring children’s favourite books to life.
Stars of Les Miserables, Oliver and Matilda will help bring books to life with readings.
Actors from Call the Midwife, Holby City and Coronation Street are also making contributions.
The stories range from We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen and How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers to actress Katy Secombe reading the book that her father wrote for her, Katy and the Nurgla.
