Ox in the Afternoon

Dan “Ox” Ochsner, host of KNSI’s Ox in the Afternoon, hails originally from Fargo, ND. Ox lives in south St.Cloud with his wife Jan “Ox” Ochsner. They have no kids but treat their west highland terrier like actual offspring. Ox began his radio career in 1991 as a rock DJ in Fergus Falls and signed on as News Director with Leighton Broadcasting’s KDLM in Detroit Lakes in 1998. He came to KNSI in St. Cloud in 2001 starting “Hot Talk with the Ox” as a three-hour morning talk show covering politics and local current events with a humorous slant. His current show, Ox in the Afternoon weekdays from 2p-to-5p, adds the elements of good old-fashioned Central Minnesota afternoon fun and remote, on-location broadcasts from the region and world. The Ox is well known in St.Paul and Washington, featuring congressmen and senators from all over the state and country as frequent show guests. Ox’s humor, sincerity, and personality build new friendships with every broadcast.

Bob Hughes | KNSI

Bob Hughes began his love affair with broadcasting “Where the Prairie Meets the Pines” (which of course is Fosston, MN) in the late 70’s, and has also surfed the airwaves in Brainerd, Duluth, Rochester, Bismarck, and the past 7 + years right here in St. Cloud. It is a return trip to Leighton Broadcasting, as he spent few years here in the early 80’s with KCLD-FM. “Things were a bit different then,” he recalls. “The first song I played when I went on the air then was Blackfoot’s “Train, Train”. On vinyl. The big record with the small hole. 33 1/3 rpm. LP. Heady days for radio.
