Canned food drive to benefit food bank
Tarentum Recreation Board and Allegheny Valley Association of Churches is conducting a canned food drive through March 8 to benefit the association food bank.
Bins are set up in the following Tarentum businesses: Seita Jewelers, Harvest Moon Coffee and Chocolates, Asay’s News Stand, Dry Bones, Costello Printing, Diamond Antiques and Merle Norman Cosmetics.

Highlands plans annual Early Childhood Fair
Highlands School District will host the annual Kindergarten and Pre-K Counts Registration and Early Childhood Fair March 4, 5, 11 and 12.
Appointments are 45 minutes long and are available from 5 to 8 p.m. March 4 and 11, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 5 and 12.
Masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Parents should bring their child, the child’s original birth certificate, two proofs of residency and the child’s immunization records. Pre-K Counts registrants must also bring two proofs of income, such as pay stubs or W-2s. Parents will complete the required registration and get an o

March 21: Our Lady, Queen of Peace Parish is selling raffle tickets for a Half A Cow raffle. Winner will receive half a cow, a 20-cubic feet freezer, $200 gift card to Naser’s Foods, $200 gift card to Rukas Beverage and a $100 gift card to Lackey’s Dairy Queen. The winning number will be the 7 p.m. March 21 Pa. Daily Pick 3 number. Cost: $10 for two numbers.

Fox Chapel
February: Fox Chapel Area High School will host a community blood drive during February at the Vitalant Harmar/Fox Chapel Donor Center, 2585 Freeport Road, suite 207. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome. Donors must be at least 16 years old and will be tested for antibodies to covid-19 for free.

Riverview Community Action Corp food bank accepting donations
The food bank at Riverview Community Action Corp in Oakmont serves people in need who live in Oakmont and Verona.
Donations of jelly, kid-friendly cereal, pasta sauce, noodles, rice, tuna and $10 Giant Eagle gift cards can be dropped off from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays at the center, 501 Second St. Residents in need should call 412-828-1062.

The Leechburg Area School District is accepting letters of interest for a vacancy of school director until Monday, Jan. 4 after a recent resignation.

The Leechburg Area School Board is searching for a new school director, and the deadline to apply is noon Monday.
Board president Neill Brady confirmed the board accepted Lisa Gregory’s letter of resignation during the Dec. 9 reorganization meeting.
Attempts to reach Gregory for comment were unsuccessful.
Gregory was elected to the board in 2019 and still had a year left on her term.
