Close to 10,000 people receive Covid-19 shots in NMI

THE CNMI has so far vaccinated close to 10,000 people,  Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. spokesman Lee Tenorio said.  Since the Covid-19 vaccination began in Dec. 2020, 17,072 doses have been administered to 9,978 people. Of the 9,978, he said 7,094 people have received the complete two doses of the vaccine. Tenorio added that 2,884 more people are expected to receive their second dose to complete their vaccination series in the coming weeks. Right now, he said CHCC is vaccinating individuals under the vaccination plans’ Phases 1A and 1B on the three main islands. Phase 1A covers healthcare employees, high-risk first responders, homebound/bedbound patients, and manamko (65 years old and older). Phase 1B includes persons 55 years of age and older, and essential employees in the public and private sectors.

8 travelers test positive for Covid-19

EIGHT newly arrived individuals tested positive for Covid-19 over the weekend, raising the CNMI’s confirmed cases to 143 since March 28, 2020, the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. said. CHCC spokesman Lee Tenorio said the individuals were identified by travel screening and confirmed diagnosis through testing upon arrival at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport. These individuals have been safely in quarantine and were moved to the designated isolation area for close monitoring, Tenorio added. He said CHCC has already initiated contact tracing for the most immediate contacts of the new confirmed cases, including passengers on the same flight. As of Feb. 20, 2021, of the CNMI’s total number of Covid-19 cases, 117 were diagnosed through travel testing, 10 were tested through community screening, and 16 through contact tracing 186 days ago. There had been two deaths in March and April 2020.
