republican leaders, from various scandal-clad denny hastert all the way down to lee stefanik, who came into leadership this year to effectively push out liz cheney because of her fight with donald trump. what does this say? the house is fighting things with donald trump over what they want? i think that s spot on. the republican party has always been a party in the house of representatives and senate that functions based off the believes of the members in that conference. you have a lot of folks changing the direction of the party constantly. i think about the style of boehner and how he dealt with the freedom caucus. you think of the style of paul ryan, how he dealt with the freedom caucus. mccarthy, how he s dealing with the right flank, some of whom are in the freedom caucus, and i think what you see there is three very distinct leadership styles and three different moments where members wanted
