<p>As the preliminary round of the IIHF Women’s World Championship comes to a close, Canada and the U.S. are set to face off in a return to one of the greatest rivalries in international sport.</p><p></p><p>Both teams have gone 3-0 through the group stages, and tonight’s winner will solidify the No. 1 seed heading into the knockout stages, which begin on Saturday and end with the gold medal game next Tuesday (Aug. 31). As usual, the cross-border rivals are on a crash course to face off (again) in the knockout stage in their quest for gold.</p><p></p><p>The U.S. beat Canada for Olympic gold in 2018 (not that anyone has forgotten) and has won eight of the last nine world championships, including five straight titles.</p><p></p><p>The two sides have each won 19 world championship medals.
