Late last night, mcconnell explained in a statement, regretfully, it is now apparent that the effort to repeal and immediately replace the failure of obamacare will not be successful. Mcconnell now making a major pivot, announcing he will push for a new version that will repeal obamacare outright with a twoyear phaseout so theres time to come up with a replacement system. This is breaking news from our nations capital. If you have been following the health care fight you know the magic number has been two. That is the total number of republican votes that the republicans can afford to lose in the senate and still kill the Affordable Care act. The Senate Republican leader is Mitch Mcconnell and he has said he is determined to get the vote on his partys very Unpopular Health care bill that is expected to cost tens of millions of americans their Health Insurance. He said he is wanting to push back the recess to keep republicans in washington longer the better to be near them so as to twist their arms and offer them stuff that might sweeten the deal. Effectively killing the whole thing. Here first was the president just moments ago. Weve had a lot of victories but we havent had a victory on health care. Were disappointed. I am very disappointed because, again, even as a civilian, for seven years, ive been hearing about health care. And ive been hearing about repeal and replace, and obamacare is a total disaster. Some states had over 200 increase, a 200 increase in their premiums and their deductibles are through the roof. Its an absolute disaster. And i think youll also agree that ive been saying for a long time, let obamacare fail and then everybodys going to have to come together and fix it. And come up with a new plan and a plan thats really good for the people with much lower premiums, much lower costs, and much better protection. Ive been saying that, mike, i think youll agree, for a long time. Let obamacare fail. It will be a lot easier. And i think were probably in that position where well just let obamacare fail. Were not g

Hours later, a Republican Health care plan collapsed. A pair of republican senators pulled their support killing the republican plan to repeal and replace obamacare. Now the republicans are just talking about repeal. Good morning, welcome to morning joe. We have columnist mike barnicle, economic analyst steve rattner, senior political analyst for nbc news, Mark Halperin and from the associated press, julie pace. The president said youre going to have such Great Health Care at a tiny fraction of the cost and its going to be so easy. That was october of 2016, joe. And Mark Halperin has said all along the greatest risk to donald trump, the greatest risk to the republican majority may not be the russian scandals, it may not be the indiscriminate tweeting, the unpresident ial behavior, it may not be the question of checks and balances and throwing aside every sacred tradition of the United States government over the past 240 years, it may be the inability to get things done because Donald T
