As birth rates decline in the country and enrollment falls, foreign students are becoming cash cows for Korean universities leading schools to go to extremes to prevent them from being restricted from recruiting more
After a university forced Uzbek students out of the country with time still left on their visas, more foreign students are speaking out about the policies that alienate them and ultimately have them choosing to return to their home countries rather than stay in Korea
More than 20 Uzbek students at the school’s Korean language learning institute were boarded onto a bus under false pretenses on Nov. 27 and taken to Incheon International Airport, where they were forced to board a pre-booked flight and return to their home country
The migrant rights groups placed the blame for the unjust expulsion of the Uzbek students on “discriminatory immigration policies that view students from a particular country as potential criminals”
