'Neighbor To All,' Reggie Barrows Retires After 29 Years With FedEx

Snow, rain, and sleet? Reggie A. Barrows has seen every variety of inclement weather on the streets of Falmouth—a little of each in February so far. But weather will be less of a consideration for Mr. Barrows, as he retired from his job delivering parcels for FedEx for the past 29 years. Over three decades, Mr. Barrows has endeared himself to many of his customers and is something of a dignitary in the streets of Falmouth at 63. He has helped organize numerous charity events to raise money for the West Falmouth Library, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Falmouth Service Center, among others.

Cape Cod art: New COVID-inspired photos, paintings and 4 more exhibits

It’s not too soon: Reflections on the pandemic time so far are among the artwork being showcased in new area exhibits. One display in South Yarmouth hails the COVID-19 heroes; another in Falmouth takes a look at ordinary people living through extraordinary times. And creators of a Dennis exhibit seek to offer comfort just when a lot of us might need it. Two other new art exhibits on the Lower Cape offer a look at memories and stories, personal ones and those reflecting a town. Here’s a look at six new art exhibits to visit in person or virtually, to escape from the everyday world or to enrich it:

Fetch a great getaway at dog-friendly hotels & inns

Getty Images We’ve all got that feeling this winter the urge to get away to someplace new, even for a little bit. While it may be tough to get to, say, that island beach you crave or the western mountain you yearn for, you can find escapes closer to home that scratch that itch. Here’s a thought: Your dog may need that very same thing. Our pets have been stuck at home more too. And while snoozing and getting more scritches from their humans seems great, they may need a change of scenery as well.

When The Pivot Is On The Other Foot

I have spent the better part of the year singing the praises of our local artists and arts organizations who have found ways to keep the arts alive for all of us, from artists such as Jackie Reeves, who created community murals, so we could be “Together Apart” to photographer Lee Geishecker and realtor Annie Hart Cool, who coordinated the Front Steps Project to document families during the quarantine, and the Cotuit Center for the Arts, which brought live theater back with its plein air performance of “The Zoo Story.” When I was asked to participate in the annual meeting of ArtsFalmouth last week as one of more than a dozen speakers asked to report on how the pandemic had affected their organization, I thought, for the first time, about my own job and the ways in which I normally do things had also been turned on its head this year.
