Financial district on the edge of chinatown. Everything they rely on for existence is the golden gate. Its of massive importance to the people what comes in and out of San Francisco bay. They cant see it where they are. They get the idea to build a giant wooden structure. The years that it was up here, it gave the name telegraph hill. It survived although the structure is long gone. Come to the 1870s and the city has growed up remarkably. Its fueled with money from the nevada silver mines and the gold rush. Its trying to be the paris of the west. Now the beach is the suburbs, the we will their people lived on the bottom and the poorest people lived on the top because it was very hard getting to the top of telegraph hill. It was mostly leanto sharks and bits of pieces of houses up here in the beginning. And a group of 20 businessmen decided that it would be better if the top of the hill remained for the public. So they put their money down and they bought four lots at the top of the hil
Cohill and dr. Warren bronner representing cpmc and sutter for them being able to take another look ~ when supervisors called and when we got a mediator back together. I know its hard when you think you have an agreement and then doubts are cast and things have to be relooked at, and they had to go back to their hospital administrative officials and their board to assure them that a deal could be had. And thats not easy in these times. By the way, i want to remind everybody, during these last year and a half, two years, all of the questions around the federal Affordable Health care act were also trying to be understood by everyone. That takes great toll on people who are spending millions of dollars on a hospital and not knowing what the future needs might be and how Affordable Care act would impact that. Their past models had to be challenged and reviewed so that they can take care of folks for the next 10 to 50 years. So, i know and understand that there had to be a lot there. Going
This historic agreement ensures that two brandnew seismically safe hospitals for our city are going to be built, while guaranteeing Important Health care and other benefits that san franciscans will enjoy for years to come. I want to thank everybody in this room, in particular all those that are standing behind me for getting us to this day that we can sign this agreement. And, yes, its been long, its been arduous, but i believe that we all agree it was definitely worth the effort. Together and through our consensus building approach, we made it possible to build two seismically safe hospitals, advance the state of medical care in our city, and put thousands of san franciscans to work. I also want to take this moment and mention my personal thanks on behalf of the city, if i will, and i know the board will join me. I want to thank cpmc for their deliberate participation with some 10 other bay area hospitals to respond in the highest professional fashion to the critical Emergency Needs
That the individuals who have just spoken and feeling that youre as an american as anybody else offers you the ability to say, hey, ive got an opinion, too. I want wetter schools. I want to do all these other things. I want to be a part of that decision making, not be a recipient or victim of someone elses decision. And thats the key, i think, to this initiative. We always felt that we didnt do enough just by doing the census count. And in this city, i think we want that full participation. We want it so badly that even david chiu and all of us are saying, lets give people a vote who are not necessarily citizens to the Education System because we need that we need that input. We dont want parents disengaged in whats going on with their kids. Education is so important to everybody and so much a part of the future, but there are a lot of things we want to do, but i think the path to citizenship and what we have outlined here particularly with the funding agencies have so much experience
There is an alert right here telling us there is heavy traffic in soma. Lets walk there and then take a taxi or muni back. That new website gives us a lot of options. It sure does and we can use it again next weekend when we go to see the giants. There is a new destination section on the website that shows us how to get to at t park. There is a section, and account alerts and information on parking and all kinds of stuff, it is so easy to use that even you can use it. That is smart. Are you giving me a compliment. I think that i am. Wow, thanks. Now you can buy dinner. Sfmta. Com. Access useful information, any good afternoon. Thank you for being here. I just wanted to acknowledge how momentous occasion this is. I want to thank all the members of the board of supervisors for being here, to join me in this announcement along with California Pacific Medical Center officials and, of course, our extraordinary volunteer mr. Girardo. Im happy today to sign this legislation to approve the Cal
