shepard: the attorney general of the united states eric holder is visiting texas today and slamming that state s new voter i.d. law. there is a debate going on that could effect millions of voters this november. texas is suing the u.s. justice department after t blocked the law that requires all voters to show photo i.d. the attorney general told the naacp convention in houston that the measure hurts minorities he says who are less likely to have an i.d. many of those without ids would have to travel great distances to get them. and some would struggle to pay for the documents they might need to obtain them. we call those poll taxes. [ applause ] shepard: poll taxes, of course, a reference to the fee some southern states used after slavery ended in an effort to discourage black people from voting. critics say i.d. laws discriminate against the elderly and the poor. republic supporters say the measure helps fight voter fraud. well, an annual counter terrorism meeting in congress n
